Bolsonaro’s Back in Brazil, But Won’t Lead Opposition

The former President broke his 3-month US exile and returned to his country for a nationwide trip to boost his party’s hopes in looming local elections.
Speaking to reporters before boarding his flight from Florida, he said “I hope Brazil doesn’t become Venezuela. Brazil houses thousands of Venezuelans. It’s sad. People who have been tricked by socialism. I hope Brazil is not on the same path.”
Bolsonaro is returning for the first time since losing reelection to left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and confirmed he “will help [his] party as a person with experience,” and “not lead any opposition.”
